was there different moves?

It looks convincing, but I'd like to see a picture of the game in action if
you don't mind. Otherwise I see no reason to doubt you

Hello, I'm Andy Wolan from SSRG. ( I understand you have a prototype version of Knuckles Chatoix. I would liek to ask you the following:

a) Do you have any plans on dumping the ROM image of the game to the public?
b) Would you be interesting in moving your site to SSRG?

Subject : Important: About your Chaotix Greenboard

Hi, I liked your page, it was interesting.

I am a big fan of chaotix and sonic, and I wanted to inform you of something important.

On your greenboard, those black chips (eight of them, if I counted correctly) are EPROMs, which stands for "Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory." You see, EPROMs are programmed electronically and DELETED WITH UV RAYS. Simple exposure to the sunlight can erase or shorten the lifetime of the chips. This is called "bitrot" because EPROMs are not permanant, over time or with exposure to light, they will begin to slowly lose data contained within the game. That's why we DUMP ROMs to preserve these kinds of games.

I would suggest that you use either non-transparent tape or get some stickers and place them over the holes you see in those black chips to protect them and prolong the life on those EPROMs. As a second suggestion, I reccomend you contact Snorter of and get the game dumped, he does dumps of genesis and 32x games. he can also send it back to you for free if you ask him. I've done buisness with him, he's honest and reliable. He even pays for shipping and handling (well, when sending it back to you, as far as I know!) and don't worry about legal stuff, as long as you keep it secret and ask to remain anonymous.

Thanks for the great page. :)

I'm sure someone's already asked you this; but are you willing to get the game dumped? Most likely this Chaotix Proto is written on a set of EEP ROMs (That green board. Each chip is a EEP ROM). This leads to the potential of something called "Bit Rot".

Basically; think of it like this: An EEP ROM is kind of like a floppy diskette, but for cartridge based videogame consoles (and various other things). This means things can be written to the EEP ROM and erased from the EEP ROM just like you could on a floppy disk. But to do this you have to send an electrical charge to the EEP ROM so that it holds the data in place. Over time, EEP ROMs of course loose their electrical charge, and thus the data in them becomes corrupted and goes missing. (the game becomes unplayable, and eventually worthless) This is called "bit rot".

Bit rot does not occur on retail cartridges; the data in those is hard-written into the ROM set so it cannot be over-written or erased. But pretty much ALL Prototype games use EEP ROMs. There is no way you can stop Bit Rot physically; it just happens. There is no telling when Bit Rot will occur; games locked away in safes and such away from dust and particles, sealed in places, etc experience bit rot just as anything else does. There is also no telling when Bit Rot will occur; it seemingly can happen at any time.

The only way to physically preserve your game is by having it Dumped to the PC using a ROM Dumping Machine. They are quite difficult to assemble on your own; I suggest finding a group of ROM Dumpers and sending it to them. I believe the folks down at the Genesis Collective ( could dump it, although I'm not 100% certain. Can't hurt to ask, can it?

I hope you agree. It's quite possible that if you don't dump this the game will be lost forever; nobody -- not even you will be able to play your Proto ever again.

Date : Tue, 16 Jul 2002 22:06:32 -0400 you have access to a TV card or anything that you could grab cleaner shots with? I'd like to examine them in detail. Also, have you ever thought about dumping the game? EPROMs can be subject to bit rot after a good length of time, and I'm sure even you would like to preserve this.

Hi, Im Yuski the Dog and I from Brazil. I love the game Chaotix. Everybody knows that Mighty used Sonic sprites as a base, but we want to see it running. Do you will send it to someody to dump it into a ROM? And Tails is in the game?

Very interesting info on your site! There's been a bit of discussion about it at the Area51 message boards, many people don't believe you, but I do .. this would take wayyy too much work to fake. :) If you can take a photo of the 32x in the same pic as the game running on the TV, I think most of them will believe you though. So, do you plan on dumping the ROM? It would be very interesting to see, I'd certainly like to try it out.

Also, did you test any other games for Sega? Also, why does your greenboard have 8 or so ROM chips on it? Does it contain multiple games to be tested, selected by dip switch or something like that?

Talk to you soon! :)

I was interested in your Chaotix beta screenshots. Looks interesting indeed! That's really cool that Sonic is in this version and all =)

I was wondering if you could send me or at least upload a couple of requests of my own:

- A screenshot of the entry-level (Newtrogic High -- the one where you select your partner and level). I know you have one already, but I was hoping of a screenshot of the "Information Center" part -- that's where you first enter the building and see pictures of the levels posted on the wall above.

- A picture of the options screen

I'm interested in these two because I was told that these were different in a beta version by some other dude who claims to have a beta (to whom is also a big-time bullshitter) and I'd like to just take a look at them. You could probably tell me some of the differences if any, but I've found in the past that seeing the picture myself can sometimes reveil some differences that normally aren't noticable by most people.

I certainly hope this isn't too much trouble.

Thank you for your time -- I appreciate it.
